Concurso
de Motor Sports Program 2008
Carrera de Poker (“Poker Rally”), Friday, 17 October
The
Carrera de Poker or “Poker Rally” will be a self-guided drive to
famous historical and geographic sites in San Miguel de Allende and
the state of Guanajuato. Registration will be at the Hotel
Refugio del Molino (10:00-2:00)
on Friday, October 17.
The registration fee will be 200 pesos per car or motorcycle. Each
driver receives a map and identification card.
The
participants will have until 6 PM to visit five sites in the state
of Guanajuato. At each site they will register and draw one poker
card from a deck of cards. Two of the stops on the route will be
restaurants near Guanajuato, and there will be time to eat lunch.
The
participants will return to the Hotel Refugio del Molino at 6:00 PM
for a reception. Prizes will be awarded to the cars with the highest
poker hands.
Concurso of Cars and Motorcycles, Saturday, 18 October
Those who want to exhibit their cars or motorcycles should
confirm their participation with Julio Mendez,
marketing@concursosanmiguel.org by September 17th.
The primary location for the Concurso is Estacionamiento Cardo
located on El Cardo. Estacionamiento Cardo is a new facility, easy
to access off of the Carretera Salida a Celaya as you come into San
Miguel.
Registration for the show will be from
9:00
until 10:30 on Saturday morning.
Hours for the show are 11 am until 3 pm. Entrance tickets for the
public will be $50 pesos to see the cars and vote for the best car
within each category. Winners will receive a prize and will display
their cars in the Jardin with the Carrera Panamericana cars on
Sunday, September 19.
All
cars are subject to approval by Concurso officials.
At 5
pm after the show, car owners who exhibited their cars are cordially
invited to attend a brief reception at the Hotel Refugio del Molino
for the Carrera Panamericana convoy drivers. A ticket for the
reception will be given out during the Concurso.
Panamericana Gala for Children and Families, Saturday, 18
October
On
Saturday night, October 18, at 7:00-10:00 the Concurso de Motor
Sports San Miguel will host a Gala for the benefit of children and
families in need of assistance. The entire event occurs at the
Hotel Refugio del Molino located on Salida Real a Queretaro and only
9 blocks from the center of San Miguel.
At
the Gala, you will:

Meet well known Panamericana racing drivers from the
past and drivers competing in the 2008 race;
·
See a private show of Carrera Panamericana race cars, collectible cars
and motorcycles displayed on the grounds of the hotel;
·
Taste different brands of tequila and select your
favorite one;
·
Sample the official margaritas of the Concurso. Two
margaritas won first place prizes in a competition among restaurants
in San Miguel last August. Hecho en Mexico will provide their
winning traditional margarita and Dila’s Restaurant will serve their
winning exotic margarita.
·
Try quesadillas, gorditas and other botanas freshly
made at traditional food stands set up in the garden of the hotel.
·
Enjoy a gourmet dinner, served in the Salon de Fiesta
of the Hotel which accommodates seating for 300 people comfortably.
Kirsten West, a scholar of Mexican cuisine, and Fernando Padilla, a
chef trained at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in New York, are
bringing the best of sophisticated Mexican cuisine to San Miguel for
this special evening.
Tickets are $1,500 pesos per person or $150 USD and are available by

Panamerican Car Show, Sunday, 19 October
Twenty La Carrera Panamericana cars will be on display in El Jardin,
the main square from 11:00AM--3:00PM. In addition, the winners of
the Concurso on Saturday will be invited to display their cars and
motorcycles in el Jardin as well.
All profits from the Poker Rally, Concurso and the
Panamericana Gala benefit two nonprofit organizations providing
